FAQ

Contractors questions

Why should I use SafeBilled instead of collecting payment directly?+

SafeBilled helps bridge the trust gap in home improvement by providing: Verified project opportunities Clear milestone-based payment expectations Homeowner funding verification Documented approvals and change orders A structured payment process designed to reduce misunderstandings In addition, SafeBilled can be a powerful marketing tool for contractors. Homeowners often hesitate to move forward because they're worried about paying too much upfront or losing control of their money. By using SafeBilled, contractors can offer a payment process where funds are protected and released only after completed work is reviewed through the Conditional Payment Release process. This added layer of transparency can help contractors build credibility, reduce homeowner hesitation, and win projects that might otherwise be delayed or never move forward. Simply put: SafeBilled helps homeowners feel confident hiring you, helping you close on more projects.

When do I get paid?+

Payment follows performance. Once a milestone is completed, submit a milestone request with any required photos or documentation. SafeBilled then initiates a Conditional Payment Release process. The homeowner has up to 5 days to review the work and either approve it or raise a concern. If the homeowner approves the milestone, payment is released. If a concern is raised during the review period, payment is paused while the issue is reviewed. If the homeowner takes no action within the 5-day review period, the milestone is automatically deemed approved, and the funds are released to you. This process helps ensure contractors are paid for completed work while giving homeowners a reasonable opportunity to verify that the milestone was completed as agreed.

Are the homeowner's funds already available?+

Yes. SafeBilled verifies and protects homeowner funding before work begins, helping reduce the risk of completing work and then waiting on payment. Funds are released according to approved project milestones.

What happens if the homeowner raises a concern?+

SafeBilled pauses the payment release for the disputed milestone while both parties provide information. SafeBilled's role is to facilitate communication and document collection. If the parties cannot resolve the issue, they may pursue mediation, arbitration, or other remedies outlined in their agreement.

What does it cost contractors to use SafeBilled?+

If SafeBilled provides the homeowner project through a bid opportunity, a 1.95% Contractor Project Fee applies to funded jobs accepted through those opportunities and is deducted from contractor payouts. Direct 1-on-1 projects do not have this fee. For card-funded work, the Contractor Merchant Fee may also be deducted to cover card processing costs.

Can I request additional money if the scope changes?+

Yes. Submit a Change Order describing the revised scope of work and cost. The homeowner must approve the Change Order and provide any additional funding before related work proceeds and the next milestone payment can be released.

Do I need a license and insurance?+

Contractors are responsible for maintaining any licenses, permits, certifications, and insurance required for their trade and location. SafeBilled may verify these credentials as part of the contractor onboarding and review process.
